For many Australians (myself included), the name “Fletcher Jones” brings to mind an iconic Aussie clothing brand, renowned for its finest-quality materials and tailoring.
But on reading a bio of its founder, Sir (David) Fletcher Jones, I am in serious awe of how the man conquered a significant personal challenge – a severe stammer.
As a child, Jones practised reading aloud in order to conquer this, and succeeded. But the trauma of serving in World War One triggered the stammer’s return.
Choosing to overcome it differently this time round, Jones started a door-to-door sales business.
Confronting, much?
Well, it worked. The business grew steadily over decades, to became a national success story.
At its peak, Fletcher Jones & Staff employed close to 3,000 people in over fifty-five stores nationwide (Fun Fact – Jones left school at 12 years of age).
The message here is this: no matter what your English challenges might be (phone calls/face-to-face/ presentations/emails…), with the right Business English tools, you’ll empower yourself to face them head-on – and win.
